Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school.  I hope that you and your family managed a good Christmas and can I wish you a happy and healthy new year.

As you are aware there has been much speculation in the press about schools reopening. At this moment in time The Croft remains open to all pupils.  However, in the coming days/weeks we may need to close some classes due to staff shortages due to self-isolation and illness and potentially because they have taken their union advice not to return to school whilst infection rates are high.  Low staffing levels would affect the Health & Safety of pupils and result in some classes moving to remote learning.  Furthermore, the Government may take the decision to partially close schools.

We have, therefore, been advised to begin formulating a list of pupils who would qualify for a critical worker place at school if the Government announces further school closures.  We are asking parents to email the school at office@croft.staffs.sch.uk by 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday 5th January 2021 if you feel that your child is eligible for a place.  More information regarding critical workers is available via the following link

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

When emailing in could you please supply us with the following information:

  • Child’s name
  • Which category you believe your job/s falls into
  • Parent 1 job title & employer contact details
  • Parent 2 job title & employer contact details
  • Whether or not you require a critical worker place at school in the event of further closures

If we do not receive an email from you it will be assumed that your child does not require a place and they will not be allocated one.

If demand for a critical worker place is too high there may be a need to give priority to NHS, emergency services, education workers and those children with two parents in a critical worker role.  This very much depends upon the request for places.  You will be contacted to let you know the status of your request when all emails have been processed.

We are hoping that we do not need to close the school and move to remote learning but be rest assured plans will be in place should the need arise to ensure continuity of education for your child.

As always, I would like to thank you for your support and understanding during these difficult times.

Please stay safe and take care.
