French (MFL)

Why we teach MFL

MFL is an important part of primary education for many reasons. At The Croft we recognise that MFL can help develop a child’s self-confidence, both in their learning and themselves. MFL can enrich and enhance a child’s mental development, as studies have shown that learning a foreign language increases critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of a child’s mind. MFL can improve a child’s understanding of the English language. At The Croft, it is important to us that we encourage positive attitudes towards foreign languages and the people who speak them, through the teaching of MFL and broaden children’s horizons.

At The Croft, we teach French from recpetion all the way through to year 6 - ensuring a systematic progression to help pupils acquire the language. We teach the speaking, listening, reading and writing of French. We use Language Angels as our scheme of work which embeds lots of consolidation, revisiitng and challenges to help the children learn more and remember more. It also has lots of opportunities for practice and fun songs too!
